Read moreRead-Build-Write Board is a versatile, multi-sensory tool designed to transform literacy learning into an engaging and interactive experience, following the principles of the Orton-Gillingham approach. This educational board guides children through three critical stages of literacy development:
Read/See Phase: Children begin by reading a word on a flashcard, seeing an object representing the word, or listening as the word is spoken aloud. This phase helps develop vocabulary recognition and phonemic awareness, a foundational aspect of Orton-Gillingham's multi-sensory learning approach.
Build Phase: Using the Montessori Moveable Alphabet, children construct the word they just read. This tactile activity reinforces spelling skills, letter-sound correspondence, and phonics understanding, making abstract language concepts tangible. The tactile and kinesthetic engagement aligns with Orton-Gillingham’s emphasis on multi-sensory learning.
Write Phase: Finally, children write the word on the integrated chalkboard surface. This hands-on practice solidifies their understanding of the word’s spelling and meaning while enhancing fine motor skills. Writing is an essential part of the Orton-Gillingham method, as it connects reading and spelling.
Teachers will appreciate the board’s flexible design, which can be adapted for various skill levels—from beginning letter recognition to advanced word building and sentence formation. It is also compatible with the Montessori Moveable Alphabet, making it an excellent addition to any language or literacy station.
The Read-Build-Write Board can be further extended with creative activities, such as using it for sight words, building CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, exploring phonics patterns, or creating word families. This multi-sensory, Orton-Gillingham-inspired approach ensures that children not only recognize and spell words but also develop a deep understanding of language structure.
